Bring mixture to a low boil on medium high heat and then lower heat to medium-low and simmer. The liquid in a can of beans can taste like canned beans, not always a pleasant flavor. I don’t use slow cookers, but I’d recommend high heat at first to get some color on the ingredients and flavor, and then cook it on low to develop the flavors. So simple.
